WFLA News Channel 8 Launches Noticias Tampa Hoy, a New Spanish Language Newscast for Tampa Bay Area
WFLA News Channel 8 is expanding its reach to better serve the Hispanic community in the Tampa Bay area with the launch of Noticias Tampa Hoy. This new Spanish language newscast will provide a much-needed local news option for Hispanic viewers, covering the day’s top stories that directly impact the diverse Hispanic community in the region.
Noticias Tampa Hoy will feature local news, weather, sports, regional and international stories, as well as interviews with Latino-Latina influencers and community stories. The newscast will air weeknights at 9 p.m. on WTTA Great38, following News Channel 8 at 8 p.m.
Mark Higgins, Vice President and General Manager of WFLA & WTTA TV, expressed his excitement for the launch of Noticias Tampa Hoy, emphasizing the importance of serving the underserved Hispanic community. Anchor Jennifer Peñate highlighted the diverse perspectives that the bilingual reporters on the team will bring, allowing them to relate to all Latin American cultures in the Bay Area.
The Noticias Tampa Hoy team includes Heather Melendez as the weather anchor, Brianda Villegas as a reporter for unique feature stories, and Sadiel Castro as the digital anchor. Additional journalists on the team include WFLA Reporter Marco Villarreal, NEXSTAR Washington DC Bureau Correspondent Alexandra Limon, and Puerto Rico Bureau Correspondent Lexamarie Matos.
