Washington Commanders: A Promising 2025 Season Ahead Despite Defensive Concerns

Washington Commanders: A Promising 2025 Season on the Horizon?

As the Washington Commanders gear up for the 2025 NFL season, optimism is palpable among fans and analysts alike. After a commendable run in 2024, where they fell just one game short of the Super Bowl, expectations are high for the upcoming year. The team’s recent acquisitions, including star receiver Deebo Samuel and offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, have bolstered an already promising offense, leading many to believe that the Commanders are poised for even greater success.

However, the defense remains a significant concern. General Manager Adam Peters has a vision for the defensive unit, but skepticism lingers among fans and pundits. NFL.com’s Eric Edholm recently ranked the league’s 10 most complete rosters, and to the surprise of many, the Commanders were notably absent from the list. Edholm acknowledged the difficulty of ranking teams but emphasized that concerns about Washington’s defense played a crucial role in their exclusion.

“There’s no perfect way to rank the best rosters heading into the 2025 NFL season,” Edholm stated. “But I felt it was imperative to go through all 32 teams, grade each position group, and see what the numbers told me.” Despite being one game away from the Super Bowl, the Commanders failed to crack the top 10, a decision that even Edholm found surprising.

The Commanders’ snub is particularly striking when compared to other teams that have had their own struggles. The Los Angeles Rams, who nearly defeated the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, were also left off the list. Edholm placed significant weight on quarterback performance in his rankings, yet Washington’s talented signal-caller and standout receiver Terry McLaurin were not enough to secure a spot.

The Denver Broncos, who took the 10th position, feature NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year runner-up Bo Nix and a promising roster. However, McLaurin’s Pro Football Focus ranking, which places him 21 spots higher than the Broncos’ top receiver Courtland Sutton, raises questions about the validity of the rankings.

While the Broncos boast some exciting young talent and established players like Pat Surtain II on defense, the Commanders have their own strengths. Safety Quan Martin is often underrated, and the team has potential stars waiting to emerge. Yet, the lack of proven commodities on defense remains a hurdle for Washington.

As the Commanders prepare for the season, they face the challenge of overcoming doubts and proving their worth. If past performance holds any weight, they should be in the top 10, especially considering the teams they defeated last season are currently ranked among the best.

For Washington, the 2025 season is not just about proving the doubters wrong; it’s an opportunity to showcase their growth and potential. With a revamped offense and a defense that has room for improvement, the Commanders are ready to make their mark. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if they can turn expectations into reality.

Stay tuned for more updates and insights on the Washington Commanders as they navigate the offseason and prepare for what promises to be an exciting season ahead.
