Washington Commanders Maximize Value in 2025 NFL Draft Despite Limited Selections

Washington Commanders Make Strategic Moves in 2025 NFL Draft

The Washington Commanders entered the 2025 NFL Draft with only five selections, but the franchise showcased its ability to maximize value, adding potential starters and depth across both sides of the ball. While some analysts have raised eyebrows at certain picks, the overall haul has left many feeling optimistic about the team’s future.

CBS Sports’s Josh Edwards recently highlighted the Commanders’ draft strategy, noting that each of their selections fell within the expected range or later. This approach has drawn praise, particularly for their seventh-round pick, former Arizona running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt. Despite concerns about his age and limited playing time in 2024, Croskey-Merritt’s potential has sparked excitement among fans and analysts alike.

Croskey-Merritt, who will turn 24 when the NFL regular season kicks off, had a tumultuous college career. After starting at Alabama State in the FCS, he transferred to New Mexico, where he had a breakout season in 2023, rushing for 1,190 yards and seven touchdowns. However, his 2024 season was marred by eligibility issues, limiting him to just one game. In that outing, he rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his explosive potential.

Edwards pointed out that while Croskey-Merritt’s age raises questions, his impressive physical attributes—such as a 4.45-second 40-yard dash and a 41.5-inch vertical leap—make him a valuable asset. He is expected to complement the Commanders’ existing backfield, which includes standout players like Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler.

As the Commanders gear up for rookie minicamp in the coming weeks, all eyes will be on Croskey-Merritt as he seeks to prove himself and carve out a role on the team. The franchise’s ability to identify talent and make strategic selections could be pivotal as they aim for a successful 2025 season.
