Man Driving on Florida Interstate Shot at by Motorcyclist: Police Request Public’s Help in Identifying Shooter

A man driving on a Florida interstate early Sunday morning had a terrifying encounter with a group of motorcyclists, as one of them opened fire on his vehicle while he was recording their erratic behavior, according to police.

The 34-year-old St. Petersburg man was driving his Honda CR-V westbound on Interstate 4 when he noticed several motorcyclists driving recklessly with another unidentified vehicle near Interstate 275, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement.

As the man began to film the motorcyclists with his cell phone, one of them pulled up next to him and fired several rounds from a handgun. Fortunately, the victim was not injured, but multiple rounds hit his vehicle, with one bullet penetrating the rear gate and entering the left rear quarter panel.

The suspected shooter is described as a White male with a medium build, wearing a jacket with an “Outlaws MC” logo. The Outlaws Motorcycle Club is well-known in the southwest Florida region and has a history of criminal activity, according to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

The organization has been involved in various criminal trials, with allegations ranging from racketeering to murder. One of the most notorious leaders of the gang, Harry Bowman, was placed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list in 1998 and is currently serving a life sentence for his involvement in a range of criminal activities.

Police are now seeking the public’s help in identifying the shooter involved in the incident on Interstate 4. Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities.
