“Operation Tampa Bay Blitz: Veteran Service Organization Launches Community Initiative in Tampa”

Tampa Welcomes National Veteran Service Event: Operation Tampa Bay Blitz

TAMPA, Fla. – This weekend, Tampa is buzzing with energy as The Mission Continues, a national veteran service organization, kicks off its annual community service event, “Operation Tampa Bay Blitz.” The initiative, which began on Friday at James Cole Village, aims to uplift under-resourced communities through the dedicated efforts of veteran volunteers from across the country.

Each summer, The Mission Continues selects a city for its “Mass Deployment” event, and this year, Tampa’s vibrant veteran community made it a standout choice. With over 200 volunteers participating in the kickoff at James Cole Village, the event promises to make a significant impact.

From Friday through Tuesday, volunteers will engage in various service projects at notable local sites, including The Sustainable Living Project, Sunrise Children’s Services, and the MLK Recreation Complex. The efforts will focus on repair and beautification projects, particularly in veteran affordable housing, ensuring that these spaces are maintained with dignity.

Janet Stringfellow from Volunteers of America Florida emphasized the importance of partnerships like this one. “This is what we call preservation of affordable housing. The funding for that is very minimal, if not zero,” she noted. “If we don’t have partners like The Mission Continues, we wouldn’t be able to keep this property in a way that dignifies our veterans.”

Keith Thomas, Senior Director of Marketing and Communications for The Mission Continues, highlighted the organization’s dual mission: serving both the community and the veterans involved. “We give opportunities for veterans to keep serving once they get out of the military,” he explained. “It helps with the transition when they’re still looking for their purpose.”

City leaders and local lawmakers are also joining in on the action, participating in various projects throughout the event. The Mission Continues chose Tampa not only for its large veteran population but also for its reputation as “Military Bay USA,” a nickname that reflects the city’s strong military ties.

As the event unfolds, community members are encouraged to get involved. Upcoming projects include work at the Tampa Salvation Army Church, Sweetwater Organic Community Farm, and Town & Country Elementary School. Interested volunteers must register online in advance.

For those looking to contribute to this meaningful cause, more information can be found on The Mission Continues website.

As Operation Tampa Bay Blitz continues through Tuesday, the spirit of service and community shines brightly in Tampa, reminding us all of the enduring commitment of our veterans to serve, both in and out of uniform.
