Two Dead in Tampa Shooting: Police Investigating Nebraska Avenue Incident

Two people are dead after a shooting on Nebraska Avenue in Tampa late Friday morning, according to the Tampa Police Department. The shooting took place near Nebraska Avenue and 26th Avenue, with police receiving an alert about shots fired in the area around 10 a.m.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found community members attempting to save the victims. Despite their efforts, a man and a woman succumbed to their injuries.

Tampa PD Public Information Officer, Jonee Lewis, stated, “We keep officers on patrol throughout, and immediately we jump into action. And that’s certainly the case today, arriving here very quickly, immediately responding and performing CPR to them and doing everything that they could.”

Authorities are currently speaking with witnesses and working to identify video footage to obtain a suspect description. While a suspect has not been identified at this time, the police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.

Johnathan Campbell, a resident near the crime scene, expressed shock at hearing gunshots in the early morning. He described the chaotic scene as emergency responders tried to save the victims.

“It’s people destroying their own neighborhood,” Campbell lamented. “At what point do we just let our pride go? You know, people are prideful these days so much that you’re going to shoot someone.”

Nebraska Avenue is closed between Plymouth and 26th Avenue as the police continue their investigation. This is a developing story, and ABC Action News will provide updates as they become available.
