Tampa Organization President Accused of Misappropriating Funds Amid Senior Displacement Crisis

Tampa Community in Turmoil: Senior Residents Displaced Amid Allegations of Fraud

TAMPA, Fla. — A shocking turn of events has unfolded in a Tampa community as the president of an organization that recently filed for bankruptcy, displacing over 100 seniors, now faces serious allegations of financial misconduct. Ronald Schuck, the Board President of Tampa Life Plan Village, has been accused of misappropriating funds and mismanaging essential services, according to state investigators.

The Florida Department of Financial Services Criminal Investigations Division (CID) revealed that Tampa Life and Big Rock Management Company acquired Tampa Life Plan Village from bankruptcy with plans to renovate and operate University Village. However, in April 2024, the organization announced its intention to file for bankruptcy, forcing 109 residents to seek new accommodations.

On Tuesday, Schuck was arrested in Pinellas County on felony charges of continuing care contract fraud. Investigators allege that he diverted funds from the organization’s reserves, compromising vital services such as shelter and nursing care for the vulnerable senior population.

“This arrest underscores CID’s mission to safeguard Floridians from fraud and financial abuse, especially when it involves our seniors,” stated CID Director Simon Blank. He extended gratitude to the dedicated fraud detectives and State Attorney Susan Lopez for their efforts in this case.

The fallout from this situation has left many families in distress. The Florida Department of Financial Services is urging anyone affected by the mismanagement at Tampa Life Plan Village to reach out to the state’s Insurance Consumer Helpline at 1-877-MY-FL-CFO (693-5236).

As the investigation continues, Schuck faces the possibility of up to five years in prison if convicted. The community watches closely as this troubling saga unfolds, highlighting the urgent need for accountability and protection for Florida’s seniors.
