Tampa Hope Breaks Ground on Community Center at Homeless Shelter

TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Hope is making strides in providing resources and support for the homeless community in east Tampa. The organization is set to break ground on its new community center at the homeless shelter facility, featuring 99 tiny homes.

The 7,000-square-foot “Matthew 25 Community Center” will offer essential amenities such as a kitchen, dining area, restrooms, showers, salon, and a laundry room. This center will serve as the focal point of the shelter, which is operated by Catholic Charities.

The tiny homes, measuring 64-square-feet each, provide a safe and comfortable space for residents, equipped with a bed, window, and storage space. Tampa Hope has been working closely with the city of Tampa for over two years to fund and build resources that have already benefited hundreds of unhoused individuals.

Mayor Jane Castor expressed her pride in the work done by Tampa Hope and the city of Tampa in caring for the most vulnerable residents. The $1.5 million community center, funded by Drew and Susan Peloubet, will offer a more permanent solution for clients as they transition to stable housing.

The services provided at Tampa Hope include meals, toiletries, clothing, medical care, life skills classes, and mental health treatment. The Matthew 25 Community Center is expected to open in 2025, further enhancing the support and resources available to those experiencing homelessness in the Tampa area.

With over 1,100 clients served and 358 placed in housing, Tampa Hope continues to make a positive impact on the community, offering hope and assistance to those in need.
