Tampa Bay Nonprofits Expand Hurricane Relief Efforts After Milton Hits Region

As the Tampa Bay community continues to recover from the impact of Hurricane Helene, local nonprofits are stepping up their efforts to provide relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. Feeding Tampa Bay, Metropolitan Ministries, Community Foundation Tampa Bay, and other organizations are working tirelessly to support those affected by the recent storm.

Feeding Tampa Bay, a leading nonprofit in the region, has been distributing meals and emergency supplies to those in need since Helene hit. With the additional impact of Milton, the organization is expanding its distribution events and is in urgent need of volunteers to help with relief efforts. Daily food and emergency distribution sites are set up across the region, with schedules posted on their Facebook page.

Metropolitan Ministries is also providing hot meals and essential supplies through its community partners, with locations listed on their Facebook page. The organization is working to support families impacted by the storm and help them navigate the process of applying for FEMA assistance.

Community Foundation Tampa Bay has activated its Rapid Response Fund to provide financial support to nonprofits addressing critical needs in the wake of the storms. The fund has already committed $1.2 million to support short-term relief and long-term recovery efforts. Donations to the fund will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $200,000.

The University Area Community Redevelopment Corporation (UACDC) has launched a relief fund to help families and residents in the University Area of North Tampa who were hit hard by Milton. Immediate needs include temporary housing, food, and assistance with FEMA paperwork.

The Tampa Bay Resiliency Fund, a collaboration between several local organizations, is also providing support to nonprofits involved in disaster relief efforts and recovery. Donations to the fund will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $200,000.

Local governments in the Tampa Bay region are providing updated information on recovery and relief efforts on their websites and social media pages. Residents can find information on shelters, food distribution sites, debris cleanup, power outages, and more.

As the community comes together to support those in need, the resilience and strength of the Tampa Bay region are on full display. With the help of local nonprofits, government agencies, and generous donors, the community will continue to recover and rebuild in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.
