Tampa Bay Lightning Partners with Scripps Sports for Free Game Broadcasts
TAMPA, Fla. — In an exciting development for hockey fans, the Tampa Bay Lightning announced on Wednesday a groundbreaking partnership with Scripps Sports, set to revolutionize how fans access their favorite team. Starting July 1st, all Lightning games will be broadcast over the air for free on a new channel, “The Spot – Tampa Bay 66.”
This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing the fan experience, with Lightning CEO and Vice Chairman Steve Griggs emphasizing the importance of accessibility. “We have always focused on our fan experience and listening to their feedback, and the accessibility of our broadcasts has been a top priority for them,” Griggs stated.
The partnership grants Scripps the rights to produce and distribute all preseason, regular season, and first-round playoff games. Fans can expect to see familiar faces on the broadcast team, including play-by-play announcer Dave Randorf, color analyst Brian Engblom, and rinkside reporter Gabby Shirley.
In addition to live game coverage, Scripps Sports and the Lightning will collaborate on original content, giving fans an inside look at the team and its players both on and off the ice. “The Spot” will not only feature games but also a mix of news and entertainment, creating a comprehensive viewing experience for fans.
Brian Lawlor, President of Scripps Sports, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “The Tampa Bay Lightning are one of the best teams in the NHL, and Bolts fans deserve easy access to all their games via cable, satellite, free over-the-air, and streaming.” Scripps is currently negotiating with cable and satellite providers to ensure “The Spot” is widely available.
For those who prefer streaming, the Lightning will introduce a new option through their app, allowing fans to watch games from anywhere. “The complement of broadcast television and streaming guarantees that fans can follow the games from their living room or wherever they are in their busy lives,” Lawlor added.
Details on accessing the app will be shared before the start of the 2025-26 season, ensuring fans are well-prepared for the upcoming hockey season.
As the Lightning gear up for another thrilling season, this partnership with Scripps Sports promises to enhance the connection between the team and its loyal fan base, making every game more accessible than ever.
