Tampa Bay Buccaneers Linebackers Face Challenges Heading into 2025 Season

Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Linebacker Unit Faces Challenges Ahead of 2025 Season

As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gear up for the 2025 NFL season, a familiar strength is now a source of concern. Once celebrated for their formidable linebacker corps, the Buccaneers find themselves ranked 25th in Pro Football Focus’s latest linebacker unit rankings, raising eyebrows among fans and analysts alike.

The heart of the unit remains Lavonte David, a stalwart entering his 13th season. Known for his leadership and consistency, David recorded an impressive 77.6 PFF run-defense grade in 2024, his best performance since 2017. However, as PFF notes, the questions surrounding the depth and reliability of the group behind him are significant.

While David continues to shine, the supporting cast is a mix of inexperience and underperformance. SirVocea Dennis, who showed promise in limited snaps last season, has only 209 career snaps to his name. Veteran Deion Jones, once a Pro Bowler, played sparingly last postseason, logging just 18 snaps. Meanwhile, free-agent addition Anthony Walker Jr. is coming off a disappointing season with a 48.0 overall PFF grade, leaving fans wondering if he can regain his form.

“There are questions about who will complement David,” PFF stated. “Dennis is a solid coverage player but lacks experience, while Jones and Walker have yet to prove they can consistently contribute.”

This uncertainty leaves the Buccaneers with more questions than answers at a critical position. With training camp on the horizon, the onus is on Dennis, Jones, and Walker to step up and stabilize the unit. The coaching staff, led by head coach Todd Bowles and linebackers coach Larry Foote, remains optimistic. They believe that with the right guidance, this group can rise to the occasion.

Despite the challenges, the Buccaneers have a history of defying expectations, particularly on defense. Fans are hopeful that this linebacker unit can turn things around and reclaim its status as a force in the league.

As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on Tampa Bay’s linebackers to see if they can elevate their game and prove the critics wrong. The journey begins in training camp, where every snap will count in the quest for redemption.
