Tampa Bay Commemorates 24th Anniversary of 9/11 with Community Events

TAMPA BAY, FL — As the nation prepares to observe the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, communities across the Tampa Bay area are coming together to honor the lives lost and the heroes who emerged from that tragic day. From heartfelt memorials to community service events, residents are invited to participate in a series of activities designed to remember and reflect.

9/11 Community Service Event
Kicking off the day, St. Petersburg College will host a Community Service Event at the Deuces Food Forest from 12:45 PM to 4 PM. Volunteers will engage in various service projects aimed at uplifting the local community, embodying the spirit of unity and resilience that emerged in the aftermath of 9/11. Register here.

9/11 Heroes Run 5K – Tampa
For those looking to combine fitness with remembrance, the 9/11 Heroes Run 5K will take place on Saturday at 8 AM at Park Square at FishHawk in Lithia. This inclusive event welcomes runners, ruckers, and walkers of all ages and fitness levels, encouraging participants to honor the heroes of 9/11 through physical activity. Learn more here.

9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
On Thursday at 8 AM, the Tampa Bay Rowdies will host their fifth annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg. Participants will climb 110 stories or walk 2,200 steps, symbolizing the height of the former World Trade Center towers, in tribute to the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice. Bay Pines National Cemetery
Volunteers are also needed at Bay Pines National Cemetery from 9:30 AM to 1 PM to help clean headstones and beautify the grounds in honor of those lost on 9/11. Curlew Hills Memory Gardens
A poignant 9/11 memorial ceremony will be held at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor at 10 AM, featuring keynote speaker Stephen Siller, Jr. from the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. This event will provide a space for reflection and remembrance. More details here.

Hillsborough County Remembrance Event
Hillsborough County will host its annual Patriot Day: 9/11 Remembrance Event at Veterans Memorial Park & Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins, Jr. Museum at 10:30 AM. The Madeira Beach Fire Department will hold a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at Patriot Park at 8:45 AM, providing another opportunity for the community to gather in honor of those lost.

Pinellas Suncoast Fire Rescue 9/11 Walk
Finally, the Pinellas Suncoast Fire Rescue will host an annual 3.43-mile walk starting at 8 AM from the Church of the Isles in Indian Rocks Beach, encouraging participants to walk in solidarity and remembrance.
