Law enforcement shuts down planned street takeover in Tampa, multiple arrests made

Authorities in Tampa, Florida, were able to prevent a planned street takeover on Friday night, resulting in multiple arrests and the impoundment of vehicles involved in the illegal activity. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) received information about street takeovers happening at various locations in the city, including Busch Boulevard and Florida Avenue, the Temple Terrace Winn Dixie, and Fletcher Avenue and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.

Law enforcement officials were able to stop the takeover events at the Temple Terrace Winn Dixie and the Busch and Florida Avenue locations before any street racing or dangerous driving actions took place. However, the street takeover at Fletcher Avenue and Bruce B. Downs proceeded, leading to troopers and police officers identifying the vehicles and individuals involved.

Four drivers were charged with felonies, while six passengers were charged with street racing and takeover. Additionally, four vehicles were impounded with 30-day holds, and two guns were found during the operation. The success of the operation was credited to intercepted information by law enforcement and the collaborative efforts of multiple jurisdictions, including the Temple Terrace Police Department and Tampa Police Department.

Authorities are urging the public to stay calm and not engage with or approach drivers or vehicles involved in street racing or takeovers. If encountered on the road, individuals are advised to safely pull over and report the actions by calling *FHP or 911. Anyone with information about upcoming street takeover events or possible participants is encouraged to contact FHP.

In a separate incident, a Zephyrhills homeowner is still dealing with a flooded yard months after Hurricane Milton. The frustrated homeowner’s situation serves as a reminder of the long-lasting impact of severe weather events on individuals and communities.
