Panthers Dominate Lightning with 5-2 Victory on Strong Road Trip Finish
Panthers Dominate Lightning in 5-2 Victory to Conclude Road Trip
TAMPA, FL — The Florida Panthers wrapped up a successful four-game road trip with a commanding 5-2 victory over their rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning, on Monday night. Sam Reinhart was the star of the show, scoring both a short-handed goal and a power-play goal, showcasing his versatility and skill on the ice.
Carter Verhaeghe contributed significantly with a goal and an assist, while Anton Lundell and Brad Marchand also found the back of the net. Defensemen Aaron Ekblad and Uvis Balinskis each tallied two assists, helping to orchestrate the Panthers’ offensive onslaught.
Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was solid between the pipes, making 26 saves to secure the win. The Panthers’ penalty-kill unit was particularly impressive, successfully stifling all five of Tampa Bay’s power plays, a testament to their defensive prowess as they improved to 5-1-1 in their last seven games.
The match began on a sour note for the Lightning when Florida’s Niko Mikkola was penalized for holding just 1:41 into the first period. The Panthers capitalized on the opportunity, quickly jumping to a 2-0 lead. Reinhart led a two-on-one breakout during the penalty kill, scoring his third short-handed goal of the season at 2:16. Just over a minute later, Lundell doubled the lead, netting a goal as Mikkola exited the penalty box.
In the second period, the Panthers continued their offensive barrage. After a successful penalty kill, Verhaeghe set up Marchand, who tapped in his team-leading 19th goal at 11:48. Florida extended their lead to 4-0 late in the period when Reinhart scored again on the power play, firing a shot through the pads of Lightning goaltender Jonas Johansson.
Despite the mounting pressure, Tampa Bay managed to get on the scoreboard just before the end of the second period, with Max Crozier netting his first NHL goal. The Lightning’s hopes were briefly revived when J.J. Moser scored early in the third period, cutting the deficit to 4-2. However, the Panthers quickly extinguished any comeback hopes when Verhaeghe scored again at 6:37, sealing the game with a backhander from close range.
The victory not only highlighted the Panthers’ offensive depth but also showcased their defensive capabilities, particularly on the penalty kill. As the team returns home, they will look to build on this momentum and continue their push in the competitive NHL landscape.
With the win, the Panthers improved their record to 3-1-0 on the road trip, leaving fans eager for what’s next as they gear up for their upcoming home games.
