Tampa’s Culinary Scene Heats Up: Mad Dogs & Englishmen Earns Michelin Recognition

TAMPA, FL – The vibrant culinary landscape of Tampa just got a little more exciting with the recent addition of Mad Dogs & Englishmen to Florida’s prestigious Michelin Guide. Nestled at 4914 S MacDill Ave., this British-inspired eatery has been officially recognized as “Recommended,” a testament to its commitment to quality and authenticity.

Mad Dogs & Englishmen offers a cozy atmosphere, featuring a maze of intimate rooms adorned with British memorabilia. The large conservatory is a perfect spot for diners to enjoy their meals on sunny days, while the menu boasts a delightful array of traditional British fare, including the much-loved weekly Sunday roast.

The Michelin recognition comes as part of a broader announcement that included four new Tampa restaurants added to the guide, showcasing the city’s growing reputation as a culinary destination. Alongside Mad Dogs & Englishmen, Ray’s Fish Camp, Cousin Vinny’s, and Fisk have also been acknowledged for their exceptional offerings.

In a related development, the local dining scene is witnessing significant changes. Rock & Brews, a KISS-themed restaurant that opened in 2020, will close its doors for good on March 23. The establishment, which has entertained patrons with its rock-and-roll vibe, will soon be replaced by a Portillo’s, a beloved Chicago-based hot dog chain. This transition marks a shift in the culinary landscape of Lutz, with Portillo’s expected to open its doors in December 2024.

Meanwhile, Mel’s Hot Dogs is spicing things up with a new happy hour promotion, offering patrons a free beer or scoop of ice cream with the purchase of any hot dog basket. This initiative, running Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., is sure to attract both loyal customers and newcomers eager to indulge in the iconic hot dog offerings.

As Tampa continues to evolve as a culinary hub, events like VegFeast—a celebration of local vegan eats—are also making waves. Scheduled for March 22 in downtown St. Petersburg, this annual block party will feature a variety of vegan vendors, providing a platform for plant-based cuisine amidst the backdrop of recent restaurant closures in the area.

With Michelin stars shining brightly over Tampa, the city is poised to attract food enthusiasts from near and far. As local establishments innovate and adapt, the future of Tampa’s dining scene looks promising, ensuring that residents and visitors alike will have plenty of delicious options to explore.
