New Smyrna Beach, FL — In a significant law enforcement operation, 28 members of the Mongols motorcycle gang were arrested in connection with a gas station shooting that occurred during Bike Week in New Smyrna Beach on March 8. The arrests took place on July 2, following a coordinated effort involving the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Seventh Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Lakeland Police Department played crucial roles in the operation, which included executing search warrants at two residences in Polk County. Authorities have also issued arrest warrants for three additional gang members, with their apprehensions pending.

The gang members face charges of aggravated rioting, a second-degree felony that carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison. This charge stems from the violent altercation at the gas station, which has raised concerns about gang-related activities in the area.

In total, 14 search warrants were executed across multiple locations, including the Mongols Clubhouse in Edgewater and various homes in Volusia, Brevard, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties. The extensive operation saw collaboration from numerous law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals and Homeland Security Investigations, showcasing a united front against gang violence.

Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming as they continue to gather evidence and assess the situation.
