Tampa Bay Area Gears Up to Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with Community Events

TAMPA, Fla. — As the nation prepares to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., communities across the Tampa Bay area are coming together for a series of vibrant events. This year’s celebrations promise to be a heartfelt tribute to the civil rights icon who championed equality and justice for all.

From parades to community breakfasts, here are five notable events taking place throughout the region on the national holiday, January 19:

Tampa’s Martin Luther King Parade

What: A family-friendly parade featuring colorful floats, marching bands, equestrian groups, and decorated vehicles representing local organizations.
When: Begins at noon.
Where: The parade kicks off at Cuscaden Park on 15th Street and 21st Avenue, concluding at Osborne Avenue and 22nd Street. Event map available here.

St. Pete’s MLK Power of a Dream Parade

What: Presented by the city of St. Petersburg and the Tampa Bay Collard Green Festival Inc., this event will celebrate Dr. King with floats, marching bands, and cultural performances.
When: Starts at 11 a.m.

Clearwater Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

What: This celebration, organized by the city of Clearwater and the NAACP Clearwater Upper Pinellas County Branch, will begin with a community breakfast followed by a march procession.
When: 8 a.m. to noon.

Lakeland’s Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade

What: A vibrant parade featuring local churches, organizations, daycares, fraternities, sororities, dance groups, bands, and businesses honoring Dr. King’s legacy.
When: Begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 17.
Where: The parade will proceed down Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. More information here.

Sarasota Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Walk and Festival

What: A community walk to honor Dr. King, followed by a festival at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park featuring live performances and local vendors.
When: Walk from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; festival from noon to 4 p.m.
