Memorial Day 2025: Honoring Heroes and Celebrating Community

This federal holiday not only serves as a solemn reminder of their courage but also marks the unofficial start of summer, bringing families together for a long weekend of remembrance and celebration.
Ceremonies to Honor the Fallen
Hillsborough County’s Memorial Day Observance
Kick off the weekend with Hillsborough County’s Memorial Day observance on Sunday, May 25, at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park. This year’s ceremony will feature the poignant "Garden of Gold," showcasing pictorial flags honoring local Gold Star families. An impressive American flag, soaring over 150 feet, will greet attendees at the park’s entrance. The event will also include a rifle salute, taps, and resources for veterans and military families. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

Sarasota Memorial Day Parade
On Monday, May 26, downtown Sarasota will come alive with a parade starting at 10 a.m. The procession will culminate in a ceremony at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park at 11 a.m., where community members will gather to honor those who served.

Memorial Park Cemetery Ceremony
Join the community in St. Petersburg for a free event at Memorial Park Cemetery on Monday, May 26, starting at 11 a.m. This gathering will provide a space for reflection and remembrance.

Clearwater Honor Fest
On Sunday, May 25, Clearwater will host the Honor Fest, featuring speakers and a candlelight vigil from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Registration is required, but the event is free.

American Legion U.S.S. Tampa Post 5 Ceremony
Since 1922, the American Legion has observed Memorial Day at Tampa’s veterans cemetery. Join them on Monday, May 26, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. to honor the memory of service members.

Tampa Riverwalk Memorial Day Celebration
On Sunday, May 25, Armature Works will host a community event featuring a Kids Zone with bounce houses and craft stations from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
80th Anniversary of SS American Victory
Celebrate the 80th anniversary of the SS American Victory on Saturday, May 24, with guided tours, vintage photo ops, and live demos.

Special Offers for Military Families
In honor of Memorial Day, The Florida Aquarium will offer complimentary admission to military service members from May 23 to May 26. Additionally, all visitors can enjoy free entry to Florida’s state parks on May 26, excluding certain locations.
