Suspect shot and killed on I-275 after intentionally hitting multiple people, killing one

A violent crime spree in Tampa ended in a dramatic shootout on I-275, leaving one suspect dead and multiple people injured, including police officers. The suspect, identified as Jeremiah Bailey, intentionally hit several individuals with his car, resulting in at least one death and multiple injuries.

The chaos began near Meadow and MacDill Avenue, where Bailey was reported blocking another driver, leading to a confrontation that escalated when Bailey followed the driver to a friend’s home and struck him with his car. The friend intervened and fired a gun to stop Bailey, who then fled the scene.

Bailey continued his rampage, driving into a gas station and intentionally hitting multiple individuals, including Jesse Rickett, who suffered serious head injuries, and another man who tragically lost his life. As police pursued Bailey, he struck another pedestrian, Timothy Harden, before a dramatic car chase on I-275.

The pursuit ended with officers performing a pit maneuver to stop Bailey’s car, leading to a tense standoff where Bailey appeared to be reaching for a weapon. In response, officers fired multiple shots, killing Bailey. Despite an extensive search, no weapon was found on Bailey or in his car.

Seven police officers were involved in the shooting, with three sustaining injuries during the incident. The FDLE will take over the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, while the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as per standard protocol.

The violent spree shocked residents across South Tampa and resulted in a massive police response, with multiple scenes cordoned off for hours. The community is left reeling from the senseless violence and mourning the loss of the victim who lost their life in this tragic incident.
