Tampa Man in Custody After Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident
A Tampa man is facing serious charges after a tragic hit-and-run incident that left a pedestrian dead. Vincent Thomas Oliver, 34, admitted to police that he was under the influence of drugs when he struck 23-year-old Zachary Oneal on Busch Boulevard.
The crash, which occurred late Thursday night, has left Oneal’s family devastated. His aunt, Misty Johannes, described him as a young man with a bright future, who had recently moved to Florida to pursue a career in tower repair. Oneal was on the phone with his fiancée at the time of the crash, and the couple had a young child together.
Despite fleeing the scene, Oliver was eventually apprehended by police with the help of K-9 units and aerial support. He was found hiding under a nearby vehicle and was taken into custody. Oliver admitted to ingesting narcotics and displaying erratic behavior at the time of the crash.
Now, Oliver faces multiple charges, including DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash with a death. He is currently being held without bond at Orient Road Jail.
