In a move that underscores the New York Jets’ commitment to long-term success, wide receiver Garrett Wilson has been officially placed on injured reserve, sidelining him for the remainder of the 2025 season. The decision comes after Wilson sustained a knee injury during the Jets’ Week 10 victory over the Cleveland Browns, marking a disappointing turn in what began as a promising year.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed the news, stating, “We just felt it was best for him and for us as a team. He’s on board and he’s doing really, really well as far as his rehab. We just want to be smart with him because he’s a key cog of what we are doing here.” Glenn emphasized the importance of ensuring Wilson returns fully healthy for the offseason program in the spring.
This season was particularly significant for Wilson, who signed a lucrative four-year, $130 million extension during the offseason and reunited with former Ohio State teammate Justin Fields. However, after playing in every game during his first three seasons, Wilson will miss a total of 10 games this year, a stark contrast to his previous durability.
The injury saga began in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos, where Wilson first injured his right knee, leading to a two-game absence. His recent setback has compounded the Jets’ offensive woes, as they have struggled to find their rhythm in his absence. Since Wilson’s placement on IR, the Jets have cycled through three different starting quarterbacks—Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, and Brady Cook—while ranking last in the league for passing yards, averaging a mere 147 yards per game.
Despite his limited appearances this season, Wilson remains a standout performer, ranking second on the team with 36 receptions and leading in both receiving yards (395) and touchdowns (four). Over his four seasons with the Jets, he has amassed 315 catches for 3,644 yards and 18 touchdowns, solidifying his status as a vital asset for the franchise.
With the Jets currently sitting at a dismal 3-11 record and only three games left in the season, the decision to shut down Wilson comes as no surprise. The organization is keen to protect his future, especially with expectations of a new quarterback in place for the 2026 season. The Jets hold two first-round and two second-round picks in the upcoming draft, positioning them to potentially trade up for top quarterback prospects like Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza or Oregon’s Dante Moore.
