Health Insurance Industry Responds to Patient No More Investigation

The healthcare industry is facing scrutiny as patients continue to share stories of denied claims for life-saving treatments. In a recent investigation, ABC Action News reached out to major health insurance carriers for their response, but none were willing to speak publicly. Despite this, Cigna Health did release a video acknowledging the need for change in how health plans respond to claims.

The only person who agreed to speak on the matter was Al Marino, a licensed insurance agent, who stated that the industry has been “rocked” by recent events. He emphasized the need for constant evolution in addressing customer frustrations and improving the claims process.

In response to the investigation, the Florida Association of Health Plans released a statement highlighting the measures health plans take to ensure patients receive appropriate care. They emphasized the use of experienced physicians to review cases and the availability of Member Advocates to assist patients in navigating the system.

As the industry grapples with these issues, there is a call for all stakeholders, including doctors, hospitals, and health insurance carriers, to work together to improve the healthcare system. The offer still stands for any representative or lobbyist in the healthcare industry to be part of the ongoing Patient No More series.
