Tampa Convention Center Hosts Historic Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha’s 72nd Annual Atlantic Regional Conference
The Tampa Convention Center is abuzz with excitement as the historic sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA), hosts their 72nd Annual Atlantic Regional Conference in the City of Tampa. With over 7,000 attendees and their families descending upon the convention center, the venue is awash in the sorority’s signature colors of pink and green.
Not only is this event a significant gathering for AKA members, but it is also expected to have a substantial economic impact on the Tampa region, bringing in nearly $8 million, according to Visit Tampa Bay.
In addition to the conference activities, AKA members are giving back to the local community. Through their childhood hunger initiative, they will be packing food bags for a local school and donating supplies to Metropolitan Ministries to help those experiencing homelessness.
Alpha Kappa Alpha is a trailblazing organization, being the oldest Greek-letter organization founded by African American college-educated women. They are part of the Divine Nine, a group of historically African American fraternities and sororities under the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC).
The Tampa Convention Center is honored to host AKA and looks forward to welcoming two more Divine Nine organizations in 2025: Phi Beta Sigma and Zeta Phi Beta in July.
