“Record-Breaking Arrival: Florida Baby Weighs Nearly 14 Pounds at Birth, Captivating Hospital Staff and Family”

Baby Born Weighing Nearly 14 Pounds Shocks Tampa Hospital Staff

Tampa, FL — In a remarkable delivery that has captured the attention of both medical staff and the community, Daniella Hines welcomed her son, Annan, into the world on September 3 at St. Joseph’s Hospital-South. Weighing in at an astonishing 13 pounds, 15 ounces, Annan is nearly double the average birth weight for a full-term baby, which typically hovers around 7 pounds.

Hines, 40, is no stranger to delivering larger-than-average babies; her first son, Andre Jr., weighed 12 pounds, 11 ounces at birth. However, she described Annan’s arrival as a completely different experience. “He was the talk of the maternity ward,” Hines recounted. “I remember thinking: ‘What are they pulling out of me? What is going on here?’ I felt so much pressure.”

When she first laid eyes on her newborn, Hines was taken aback. “He was so big. I was like, ‘Whose baby is this? He came out of me?’” she exclaimed. The delivery room quickly turned into a hub of excitement as hospital staff and visitors flocked to see the “little celebrity.”

Hines looks forward to sharing this extraordinary story with Annan as he grows older. “I can’t wait to show him when he gets older: ‘Look, you were in the news!’” she said with a smile.

Genetics Play a Role

Both Hines and her husband, Andre Sr., stand over 6 feet tall, a factor Hines believes contributed to Annan’s impressive size. Just a week after his birth, she described him as a calm, “chill baby” who only becomes restless when hungry.

Despite the challenges associated with delivering such a large child, Hines expressed gratitude for her son’s safe arrival. “We didn’t expect such a big blessing,” she said. “But it’s just more to love!”

While large newborns are not entirely unheard of, babies approaching 14 pounds are rare enough to make headlines. Doctors and hospital staff marveled at Annan’s size, calling his arrival an unusual but joyful event.

For Hines, the moment transcends headlines and hospital chatter. What matters most, she emphasized, is that her family has grown — both in number and in love.
