Tampa Welcomes American Evacuees from Israel Amid Ongoing Conflict
TAMPA, Fla. — In a heartfelt display of support, Governor Ron DeSantis made an early morning visit to Tampa International Airport on Friday to greet the latest group of American evacuees returning from Israel. The flight, which landed around 5 a.m., is part of a larger effort to assist citizens caught in the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.
The governor has chartered at least four flights to facilitate the safe return of Americans, demonstrating Florida’s commitment to its residents abroad. "We are here to ensure that our fellow Americans can return home safely," DeSantis stated, as he welcomed the weary travelers with open arms.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management, in collaboration with the Grey Bull Rescue Foundation, is spearheading the rescue operations. State Senator Jay Collins, who represents much of Tampa, is actively involved in the mission and is currently on the ground in Amman, Jordan. "I know unequivocally this is the right thing to do," Collins remarked, emphasizing the human aspect of the operation.
Collins shared the urgency of the situation, noting that many evacuees are desperate to return to their families. "These are moms and dads — people who are just like, ‘Look, I gotta get out of here and get back to my family, and get safe and secure in America,’" he said. With over 5,000 Americans still seeking evacuation, Collins underscored the need for additional flights and resources.
"We’ll be going across the border into Israel, getting ready to prepare for another rescue mission," he added. "We’ll go out and locate people, see the routes, make sure everything still works the way we want it to."
In addition to the state’s efforts, Project DYNAMO, a Tampa-based organization, is also conducting its own rescue missions, further amplifying the community’s commitment to helping those in need.
As the situation unfolds, the collective efforts of Florida’s leaders and organizations highlight a profound commitment to humanitarian aid, ensuring that no American is left behind in these challenging times.
