Five Indicted in Tampa Firearms Trafficking Conspiracy Linked to Canadian Crimes

TAMPA, Fla. — In a significant crackdown on firearms trafficking, federal officials have indicted five men involved in a conspiracy that smuggled over 100 weapons from Tampa and South Florida into Canada. The U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed that some of these firearms are connected to serious crimes, including homicides and drug-related activities in Canada.

The indictment, announced on Thursday, outlines the activities of Tyler Corbin, 25; Edward Noel, 26; Omar Singateth, 24; Arif Jhuman, 39; and Alfredo Santana, 32. According to investigators, the group operated from October 2023 to June 2024, supplying a transnational criminal organization with firearms purchased in the U.S.

Criminal Connections

At least 29 of the seized firearms have been linked to criminal activities in Canada, including three homicides. Notably, one of the weapons was purchased just a month before it was used in a murder, highlighting the urgent need for tighter controls on firearm sales. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is leading the investigation, emphasizing the alarming trend of U.S.-sourced firearms being sold on the black market in Canada for substantial profits.

Corbin, a Tampa resident with Canadian citizenship, was identified as a key purchaser and supplier. He was arrested on December 8. Santana, a U.S. citizen, was apprehended in Miami on December 4 for his role in trafficking the weapons. Noel and Singateth, both Canadian citizens, are currently in custody in Canada, while Jhuman remains a fugitive, wanted for multiple charges.

Charges Filed

The five men face serious charges, including conspiracy to traffic firearms, firearms trafficking, and dealing firearms without a license. Additionally, Corbin has been indicted on a charge of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, further complicating the case.

Ongoing Investigation

While the indictment sheds light on the individuals involved, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the ATF have not disclosed specific details about the transnational criminal organization under investigation. Authorities continue to work diligently to dismantle this network and prevent further illegal trafficking.

As the investigation unfolds, officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to firearms trafficking.
