Ron Perisee Resigns as Head Football Coach at Freedom High School After Two Seasons
Ron Perisee Resigns as Head Football Coach at Freedom High School
TAMPA, Fla. — In a surprising announcement on social media Tuesday, Ron Perisee revealed his resignation as head football coach at Freedom High School after two challenging seasons at the helm.
“I’ve resigned as Head Football Coach at Freedom High School,” Perisee shared on X. “Coaching these young men has been an honor. I leave knowing I gave my all and remain committed to supporting the players and school as I focus on what’s next.”
During his tenure, Perisee compiled a record of 5-14, with a disappointing 2-8 finish in the 2025 season and a 3-6 mark in 2024. This year, the Patriots struggled in District 4A-8, failing to secure any wins. However, Perisee’s leadership was pivotal in breaking a long-standing losing streak; he guided the team to its first victory in three years in 2024, ending a 30-game drought that had plagued the program since 2021.
Perisee took over the Freedom program in January 2024 following the resignation of Christopher Short. His coaching career includes a stint at Leto High School, where he posted a 6-14 record but played a crucial role in revitalizing a program that had seen only six wins from 2010 to 2021. Prior to Leto, he coached at Alonso High School and served as an assistant at Freedom in 2021.
Freedom High School has not yet announced a timeline for naming Perisee’s successor. The Patriots have faced significant challenges in recent years, with an overall record of 8-60 since 2019.
Perisee’s departure marks the fifth coaching change reported in the state as part of the 2026 Florida Coaches Moving Van by FloridaHSFootball.com, highlighting the ongoing shifts in high school football across Florida.
As the Freedom community reflects on Perisee’s contributions, the search for a new head coach begins, with hopes of revitalizing a program in need of a turnaround.
