Celebrate Earth Day with Events All Weekend Long and Into the Following Week in Tampa Bay
As Earth Day approaches on Monday, the Tampa Bay area is gearing up for a weekend full of events focused on conservation and sustainability. The theme for this year’s Earth Day is “Planet vs. Plastics,” with a goal of reducing plastic production by 60% by 2040.
Starting on Friday, attendees can visit the Tarpon Springs Heritage Museum to review ongoing projects and upcoming plans by the city’s division. On Saturday, participants can tour a food forest and learn about edible plants in the area, as well as explore interactive and educational stations along the trails to learn about birds.
The weekend continues with a family-friendly event featuring vendors, food and drinks, live music, a clothing swap, eco-fashion and art contests, and a community compost drop-off. Keep Pinellas Beautiful is also hosting a monthly cleanup throughout April and May, with various volunteer opportunities available.
On Sunday, Yogis United is hosting a free outdoor yoga session at Williams Park in St. Petersburg, with donations benefiting Tampa Bay Waterkeeper. There will also be a 3.7-mile walk along the Riverwalk at Armature Works and the St. Pete Pier to raise awareness about the global water crisis.
The Earth Day celebrations continue into Monday with a household item swap at Williams Park, Earth Day-related activities for kids at the Clearwater library, a beach cleanup at Picnic Island Park followed by free sunset yoga, and a discussion on Earth Day and planet preservation at the Clearwater Historical Society Museum and Cultural Center.
The events extend beyond the weekend, with a tour of the county’s solid waste management system on April 26 and a community cleanup event at the Tangerine Plaza Parking Lot on April 27. The festival at Walter Fuller Park will offer a variety of activities, including a flower show, tree sale, butterfly tent, and environmental resources tent. Participants can also learn about composting and its benefits at Crews Lake Wilderness Park in Spring Hill.
With events happening all weekend long and into the following week, the Tampa Bay area is coming together to raise awareness and take action for a more sustainable future.
