Tragic Loss: Worthington Woman Among Four Killed in Tampa Car Crash

WORTHINGTON, Ohio — The Columbus area is mourning the loss of 25-year-old Kristina Richards, who was tragically killed in a horrific car crash in Tampa, Florida, earlier this month. Richards was one of four victims who lost their lives when a speeding vehicle plowed into a crowd outside a bar on November 8.

Richards, a beloved member of her family and community, was remembered fondly in her obituary. “A good Italian, Kristina loved being surrounded by her large family,” it read. “Her fun and joyful personality were always on display during family gatherings. The entire family is heartbroken by her loss.”

Her family described her as having a contagious smile and a caring spirit, expressing their hope of reuniting with her in the afterlife. “There are no words to define the depth of the close family bond and relationship we have shared,” they stated.

Richards was a dedicated employee at Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea in Dublin, where she had worked for several years. The café expressed its condolences on social media, thanking the community for their support during this difficult time. “We will have adjusted hours in our cafe this week so our cafe family can pay tribute and celebrate the life of our beloved co-worker and friend, Kristina Richards,” the post read.

The tragic incident occurred when the driver, identified as 22-year-old Silas Sampson, lost control of his vehicle while fleeing from police at high speeds. The crash resulted in three immediate fatalities, with Richards succumbing to her injuries later at a hospital. In total, thirteen others were injured, two of them critically.

Sampson has been charged with four counts of vehicular homicide and four counts of fleeing police resulting in serious injury or death. He is currently being held in jail without bond as the case unfolds.

The community is coming together to honor Richards, with her funeral service scheduled for Thursday. As friends and family gather to celebrate her life, the impact of this tragedy is felt deeply across Worthington and beyond.
