Pickleball Passion Sparks Innovative Solution in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – For Justin Rudolph, Aaron Angst, and Leo DaLynx, pickleball isn’t just a game; it’s a way of life. "People that get involved with pickleball, pickleball becomes life," Angst shared, reflecting the enthusiasm that has taken the local community by storm.

However, the growing popularity of the sport often leads to crowded courts, and Florida’s unpredictable weather can leave players sitting on the sidelines. "We’d come, and then it would start to rain or would be overcrowded," DaLynx lamented.

The trio, who met last year on the very courts they love, decided to tackle this challenge head-on. Their brainchild, ParkView, is a groundbreaking website that offers live video feeds of local parks, providing real-time updates on weather conditions and court availability. With updates every ten minutes, players can now make informed decisions before heading out.

"Many of us texted each other, ‘Hey, what are the courts like at Crescent? Is it raining at Coquina? Are the courts full?’" Angst explained. "Being able to provide this solution just makes everybody’s life easier."

Rudolph elaborated on the site’s mission: "The main goal is really just providing insight to our users so they can visualize multiple locations at once and make an educated decision." Whether it’s choosing between a beach day or a game of tennis, ParkView aims to help users maximize their time.

Launched in January, ParkView currently features about a dozen cameras primarily located in St. Petersburg. These cameras are strategically placed on businesses and homes that offer clear views of the courts. The founders are actively collaborating with local parks and recreation departments to expand their camera network.

While pickleball is the primary focus, the cameras also monitor tennis and volleyball courts, as well as some local beaches and private businesses interested in participating. "We just want to save people time and money because everybody’s busy," DaLynx said. "There’s a lot of things we need to do, want to do … and just not drive around unnecessarily."
