Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2024 Events Across Tampa Bay: From Sarasota to Dade City
Communities across Tampa Bay are gearing up to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the national holiday named in his honor. From Sarasota to Dade City, events are planned to honor the civil rights hero and activist who fought for the rights of all people during the civil rights movement.
In Tampa, the Martin Luther King Parade will feature floats, marching bands, equestrian groups, and decorated vehicles representing various local organizations. The parade will kick off at noon on Monday, January 15, starting at 15th Street & 21st Avenue and ending at 22nd Street and Osborne Avenue.
St. Petersburg will host the Dream Big MLK Parade, which will honor Dr. King’s achievements while celebrating the diversity and unity of the community. The parade will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, January 15, traveling east to west on 1st Avenue South.
Sarasota will hold a Unity Walk and Celebration following the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast and Community Awards. The unity walk will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 15, starting at the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex and ending at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park.
Clearwater’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration will include a breakfast, a march, and live musical performances. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, January 15, at the North Greenwood Recreation Center.
In Dade City, the 2024 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade will be led by Grand Marshal Michael Penix Jr., fresh off the College Football Playoff National Championship game. The parade of unity and equality will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, in Downtown Dade City.
